KIRCHHOFF'S CURRENT LAW

KIRCHHOFF'S CURRENT LAW (KCL) - 2 ACTIVITIES

2 bulbs + Regulated power supply + ammeter

Description:

I suggest here that you experimentally discover kirchhoff's current law for series and parallel circuit. Instructions are displayed here.

two light bulbs connected in series (5 pts)

1. Realize this circuit :

2. (1 pt) Copy out its diagram, adding the ammeter which will measure I1.

3. (1 pt) Measure and note I1, I2 & I3.

4. (1 pt) Compare I1, I2 & I3.

5. (2 pts) Write a concluding sentence.

two light bulbs connected in parallel (5 pts)

6. Realize this circuit :

7. (1 pt) Copy out its diagram, adding the ammeter which will measure I1.

8. (1 pt) Measure and note I, I1 & I2.

9. (1 pt) Compare the results.

10. (2 pts) Write a concluding sentence.

Definition

Kirchhoff's Current Law: There are several ways to state the KCL:

- the same current flows through components connected in series.

- sum of the currents entering a node is equal to the sum of those leaving.
