HYDROELECTRIC DAM

HYDROELECTRIC DAM | POWER PLANT

energy conversion: potential → kinetic → electric

Description: A hydroelectric dam converts the potential energy stored in a water reservoir behind a dam to kinetic energy. The kinetic energy of water is used to turn a turbine.

Definitions

Potential energy: energy that is stored, based on the position, arrangement or state of an object or substance (that has the potential to do work).

Kinetic energy: energy of an object that it possesses due to its motion.
